Energy Storage System(ESS) is a system with increased efficiency by storing excess power generated by a generator to a Grid. The stored power can be supplied to the consumers when available power generated from the generator is insufficient. This technology is a perfect fit for the increasing emissions regulations from IMO by utilizing the stored power with propulsion system.
It refers to a technology that stores large-scale power in various batteries, using large-sized secondary batteries such as lithium-ion batteries, NaS batteries and redox flow batteries.
Purpose
POWER STABILIZATION |
FREQUENCY ADJUSTMENT |
EMERGENCY POWER |
PEAK SHAVING |
ZERO EMISSION |
Why use Energy Storage System?
The energy storage system can comply with environmental regulations of the areas enforced with stricter and specialized regulations. The main engine can be stopped and easily switched to zero emission mode, so vessels can prepare for strict emission regulations in the future.
In industrial sites, A lot of electricity is demanded in summer and winter at specific time. This increase in demand can be lead to the power shortage at the maximum power consumption. The Energy Storage System is possible to stabilize the power and decrease cost at the same time by discharging the stored power at the peak time.
