POSCO FUTURE M has established a dedicated production system for high-quality magnesium hydroxide in consideration of the market demand for eco-friendly raw materials due to environmental regulations.
Due to the IMO desulfurization regulation for ships (3.5% → 0.5% - '20), European shipping companies are responding to the sulfur emission regulation by using magnesium hydroxide using wet scrubbers. Magnesium hydroxide is used in various fields such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, and environmental restoration, and is commonly known as 'sumag' in the industry.
POSCO FUTURE M produces magnesium hydroxide from quicklime manufacturing by-products and magnesium (Mg) ions contained in seawater, and the product is widely used to remove sulfur oxides (SOx) from gases emitted from incinerators and heating furnaces.
