[TC-M-02] Design for Towing Carriage and Rail System

1. Towing Carriage System

The carriage supplied by DSME  tows the model ship in the towing tank ( L300 x W16 x D7.8 x Dw7, m) and runs precisely in the low and high speed. It also breaks the manmade waves and needs to be sturdy enough to manoeuvre the running model. Thus we designed it with a consideration of weight lightening and safety. 

※  System configuration : Main frame, Driving wheel set, Measuring frame, HPMM, POW installation frame, Towing carriage monitor and control system, Control room, Driving force control facility, Power supply system, Braking system, Rail surface cleaning, Rail surface vacuuming, Air pressure system, Hand rail.

1) Towing Carriage Specification

    - Low speed mode : 0.1 ~ 4.0 m/s

    - High speed mode : 3.5 ~ 8.0 m/s

      - Acceleration     :     Max. 0.5 m/s^2 ( = 0.05G )

2) Measuring Frame

ㆍDimension      : L 12 x B 1.6, m

ㆍMeasuring frame horizontal / longitudinal parallelism and flatness : less than ± 1 ㎜

3) HPMM ( Horizontal Planar Motion Mechanism )

POW Frame is subject to measuring device installation for POW test and we designed it to be possibly installed to the HPMM installation frame.  

4) Braking System

ㆍBraking system ( 4 steps ) : Manual Brake → Limit Switch/Alarm → Mechanical Brake → Stopper 

2. Running Rail System 

Running rail is the facility installed on the retaining wall of the water basin through which the towing carriage can run. We designed the rail system to be manufactured precisely and rigidly since the operating performance relies on this rail system.

2) Rail Chair

ㆍRail pitch : Approx. 600 mm

ㆍRail chair adjustment range  

     - Up & Down : ± 5 mm 

- Right & Left : ± 10 mm
